Stop Child Abuse

STOP CHILD ABUSE

First and foremost, let me brief you about what is actually meant by the terms 'Child Abuse'.
"Child abuse" can be defined as causing or permitting any harmful or offensive contact on a child's body; and, any communication or transaction of any kind which humiliates, shames, or frightens the child. Some child development experts go a bit further, and define child abuse as any act or omission, which fails to nurture or in the upbringing of the children.

Four Major Types of Child Abuse

Physical Abuse
It plays an important role in deciding a child's perspective. Physical abuse is one of the most easily recognized child abuses as it is can be easily made out by the markings and bruises on the body of the child. For instance,
  • Repeated injuries and beatings
  • Shaken Baby Syndrome
  • Munchausen by Proxy Syndrome
  • Drug use during pregnancy

Emotional Abuse
It is another major kind of child abuse that is commonly happening not only in Malaysia but all around the world. Some examples of emotional abuse are
  • Name-calling
  • Ridicule
  • Degradation
  • Destruction of personal belongings
  • Destruction of a pet
  • Excessive criticism
  • Inappropriate or excessive demands
  • Withholding communication
  • Routine labeling humiliation

Substance Abuse
Substance abuse is also a type of child abuse under the law. If any manufacture or use of a controlled substance abuse takes place in the presence of the child, it is termed as ''substance abuse''. The manufacture may take place either in the presence of the child or premises occupied by the child. Substance abuse also incorporates selling, distributing or giving drugs and alcohol to the child.

Abandonment and Neglection
Abandonment is also considered to be a type of child abuse. If the identities of the parents are not known to the child, it is known as a case of abandonment. Abandonment means that the children are left by the parents in situations where they have high possibilities in facing physical harm, or if the parents have failed to keep in contact with the child for a large interval of time.

Sexual Abuse
Sexual abuse of a child is any sexual act between an adult and a child, including penetration, intercourse, incest, rape, oral sex, and sodomy. Other examples include:
  • Fondling
  • Violations of bodily privacy
  • Exposing children to adult sexuality
  • Commercial exploitation

Consequences of Child Abuse
  1. It will encourage the children to lie, resent, fear, and retaliate, instead of loving, trusting, and listening
  2. It will alienate the children from the society and make them a recluse.
  3. It will lower the children's self esteem, and affect their psychological development and ability to behave normally outside their home.
  4. When the children grow up, the children could probably carry on the family tradition, and abuse their next generations.
  5. The child abuse victims will exclude their parents from their adult life. For example, the parents might not be invited to their child's convocation, or not be allowed any contact or relationship with their next generation.
You May Wonder Why I Don't Upload Child Abuse Pictures

I know pictures speak but I will not upload those child abuse victims' photos with scars and injuries. This will definitely be the reminders of how helpless and torturing are the poor victims.

Instead of that, I prefer...

Happy

I would never want to see child abuse to happen again.

I want all the children live happily.

Let us work hand in hand to curb the problem.
